Palm Crosses

Palm crosses appear streetside in great quantities before Easter.
Wrapped in cellophane they take on the diamond shape of kites,  

 

patterned like an old fashioned quilt.

A walk with a friend

Squeezed between suburban lots         
and the elementary school
is a piece of nature,
a gentle bit of chaos in
an otherwise subdivided land.

The witch-hazel blooms,
glorious weeks before the forsythia,
lemony yellow in the sun.
