Ben Franklin and the Gingkos -

No not a rock band, but certainly concerning stones -

the historic graveyard on Christ Church Burial Ground in the heart of Philadelphia.

Tourists stop by on Second Street - to visit Ben.

Once inside the gates, there's a mystery and a peace in these tattered stones ...

Here and there, a flag flickers...

Four signers of the Declaration of Independence are also buried here.
.

Among the urns and the slabs....

it's almost like standing in an Edward Gorey cartoon.

Dusk at the Fair...

     Not too crowded
the peaks of tents and flying flags draw our attention...

Along with the unique scene of three crosses, two ponies and a bandstand ....

                                                       with a sweetly smiling donkey.

    Inside, there is eating,

                Outside, spinning on wheels

                                and watermelons -

high stepping dancers entertain the crowds,

the chairs sit it out

the flags wave.

Rabbits Abound -

At the Long Island Rabbit Show.

Everyone here seems to love them....
the petting,
 the holding, the smiles...

   The quirky, irresistible personalities....

      An endless fascination,
                                               and sweetness.

For me, there is something inscrutable, something other, old and mysterious,
as if there's a secret they're not telling.  Good for them.

Yellow, yellow, Yellow -

I'd never seen forsythia looking like this -

A gorgeous new shape, forsythia reimagined...

                                                    laced with twine,

                                                   woven this way, that way,
                                                   binding the branches together.

Standing in the paths, the best modernist sculptures

                                                              Could not beat this.
                     What a glory of yellow -  - -

To be that close.

Interpreting March with Painted Landscapes -

It seems we've all been hemmed in by winter this year -
We look out, but everything is gray gray gray

The only colors the painted promise of crops in the community garden...

And the fantasy of an Italian Spring painted on the side of a bicycle shop -
A leftover crusty snowdrift forming a faux mountain in the front...
For a country chalet to sit on.

The last squall was March 31st, an impressive wet snow -
the tv weather map more colorful than the landscape!

I think they were craving Spring, too.
